Food Law of the Republic of Lithuania
1. This Law shall establish requirements for the handling of food placed on the market, competence of organisations in ensuring food safety and duties and responsibilities of food business entities.
2. The purpose of the Law shall be to ensure that:
Hygiene norm HN 15:2005 “Food hygiene”
Establish general hygiene requirements for food management, special requirements for food handling, special requirements for food retail trade.
Hygiene norm HN 16:2011 “Special health safety requirements for substances and articles intended to come into contact with food”
Establish specific requirements for relevant substances and articles intended to come into contact with food * and methods of testing them.
EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004
Ensure harmonised legal regulation throughout the European Union. Includes common safety and inertia principles for all materials and articles coming into contact with food
Hygiene norm HN 119:2002 “Food labelling”
Establish general requirements for food labelling, nutrition and batch marking.
This hygiene standard applies to all foods delivered to restaurants, hospitals, canteens, etc. catering establishments. Does not apply to mineral waters.
Hygiene norm HN 26:2006 “Microbiological criteria for foodstuffs”
Establish microbiological criteria for handling foodstuffs applicable to food producers operating in the Republic of Lithuania by implementing self-control based on the principles of the Risk Analysis and Key Control Points (HACCP) system

Establish the procedure for keeping animals and pets in catering establishments.
Waste management rules
Establish requirements for sorting, storage, collection, transport, treatment of waste, as well as requirements for distributors of products accepting waste products handed over to consumers
Description of procedures for organising meals for children
Establish requirements for children’s meals carried out in institutions implementing pre-school, pre-primary and general education curricula, children’s leisure camps providing accommodation services, children’s stationary institutions and social services institutions
